- The Patents (Amendment) Rules, 2024 – The 2024 amendments are aimed towards modernizing India’s IP regime by Accelerating Grant Timelines, Easing Business Compliance, Encouraging Innovation, International Alignment. As it will help advancing Indian patent practices to global standards seen in the U.S. and Europe.
- The Trademarks Act, 1999 – The Trademarks Act, 1999 is primary legislation of India for the registration and protection of brand identities, including names, logos, and slogans. The Act allows registration for services (e.g., banking, hospitality) in addition to previously recognized categories under the Act. It ensures broader protection for famous marks even against dissimilar products of its kind. Also protects shapes, sounds, and color combinations which are valid for 10 years after successful registration and can be renewed 10 years later. Recently under The Jan Vishwas Act, 2023/2024 several minor trademark offences were decriminalized to promote the ease of doing business.
